after watching ESPN here in the Phils the game between Japan and South Korea, my baseball fanaticism was finally awakened… Much more of my Japan-craze…

I don’t know if there’s a bias, but teams that make it to the Japan Series tend to be well-represented most years. Are those teams so well-represented because they were in the Series or were they in the Series because they have so many top-notch players?

What I find surprising is that both leagues are missing a team: the Dragons don’t have anybody on the CL Best Nine, which was sort of a surprise for me, and the Hawks don’t have anybody either, which is not really surprising given how the team imploded in the last month of the season.

For the Best Nine, is there a sort of bias towards the teams that took part in the Japan Series?

Well, he was able to hit over .200, which Tokyo’s Fukukawa couldn’t reliably do, and he could catch the ball, which Kawabata and Yoneno couldn’t, so that makes him better than anyone we had. Then there’s the fact that he plays for Yomiuri, which works in his favor in the balloting – it’s just so much trouble to watch other teams play.
