Chunichi Dragons 7
Streak: Lost 1 Last 5:LWWWL
(Nagoya Dome)
Tokyo were well and truly tonked at the Nagoya Dome as the Dragons starter Wei-Yin Chen allowed just four hits for the complete game shutout, and the Chunichi batters went to town on Yakult starter Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was roughed-up to say the least, giving up six runs off ten hits in his four innings of work. Reliever Hanada gave up Chunichi’s seventh run in the 7th inning to cap the scoring for the Dragons.
Chunichi starter Chen on the other hand was magnificent, shutting down the Yakult bats over the 9 innings, and allowing just the four hits. Chen dominated, striking out ten and walking none.
For the record, the Swallows’ hits came from Ihara (2), Aoki and Fukuchi.
Gonzalez’s loss now leaves his record at 1 win and 4 losses in his 6 starts since returning from long-term injury. His ERA stands at 4.765.
Yakult return to Nagoya tomorrow evening, hoping to avoid the start of another streak that has been the hallmark of their season so far.
