Tokyo picks up Sean Douglass

On July 28th, as the July 31st deadline for trades and signing foreign players drew near, the Swallows signed right-handed pitcher Sean Douglass, who played 2006 for the Hiroshima Carp with a 3.41 ERA and a 9-6 record in 18 starts and 20 appearances before spending 2007 out with injuries. Tokyo passed on an opportunity to sign Douglass last year, but apparently were impressed by what they saw this time around.

Douglass was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1997 and played for them, the Detroit Tigers, and the Cleveland Indians before signing with Hiroshima for the 2006 season. He’s now up in Toda with the Swallows’ ni-gun team at a salary of ?18 million (1800??). He’ll be wearing number 69.
